How the content and calculators on this site are researched, sourced, and kept accurate.
Our sources
Every tapering-related number on this site — reduction percentages, equivalence values, half-lives, withdrawal timelines — is grounded in published references, primarily:
- Horowitz, M.A. & Taylor, D. (2019), Tapering of SSRI treatment to mitigate withdrawal symptoms, Lancet Psychiatry — the basis of proportional (hyperbolic) tapering.
- Horowitz & Taylor (2024), The Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines — practical taper schedules for antidepressants.
- US FDA prescribing information for each medication — half-lives, available strengths, and formulation details.
- Peer-reviewed literature on antidepressant discontinuation, cited inline where used.
How our calculators work
Our tools perform arithmetic on published values — they do not generate medical advice, and every schedule they produce is explicitly framed as a proposal to discuss with a prescriber. The methodology of each tool is described in plain language on its page, and the dosing data behind it follows current US FDA labeling.
What we are not
This site is run by an independent editorial team, not by clinicians, and nothing here is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We do not accept payment from detox facilities, rehab centers, or pharmaceutical companies, and we do not run lead-generation for treatment providers. Antidepressants should not be stopped abruptly, and no schedule on this site should be started without prescriber supervision. We also take no position on whether any individual should stop taking their medication — that decision belongs to you and your clinician. Our tools are for people who have already decided to reduce, and want to do it carefully.
Corrections & updates
If you find an error — factual, numerical, or a broken reference — email support@taperoffantidepressants.com and we will review and correct it. Content is reviewed against its sources when guidance changes, and our low-value or outdated pages are removed rather than left to mislead.
Clinical review
We are actively seeking licensed clinicians experienced in antidepressant deprescribing to review our highest-traffic pages. If you are a prescriber, pharmacist, or nurse with deprescribing experience and would like to contribute review, we'd welcome hearing from you at the address above. Pages that receive clinical review will say so explicitly.
