Healing is Possible.
We are building the resource we wished existed: a calm, science-backed place to plan coming off an antidepressant — gradually, and with your prescriber.
Our Mission
Most antidepressant tapers fail for a boringly practical reason: the schedule was built out of the tablet strengths that happened to exist, not out of how the drug's effect actually falls away. Taper Off Antidepressants exists to fix that.
Our goal is to make proportional (“hyperbolic”) tapering — the approach described in the modern deprescribing literature — practical for people who aren't pharmacologists. Smaller cuts as the dose falls, a clear plan for when tablets stop being precise enough, and something concrete to hand your prescriber.
Who We Are
Taper Off Antidepressants is an independent educational initiative dedicated to safe deprescribing.
We are researchers and advocates, not clinicians. We built these tools because there was a gap between what the deprescribing literature describes and what a person sitting at their kitchen table with a pill bottle can actually do with it.
Our tools perform arithmetic on published values — FDA labeling for half-lives and available strengths, the deprescribing literature for the reduction method. We use technology to help structure and check that work, and every number that appears in a schedule traces back to a published source. Where we get something wrong, we correct it and say so — see our editorial policy.
Editorial Standards
We do not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies or treatment centers. Our only "bias" is towards safety, slow tapering, and informed consent.
